Discover how you can generate traffic for your blog and get to know the secrets on how other blogs became so popular.

Blogs are what people talk about these days; ever wondered what the hype is about?  A blog is a condensed word for “web log” an online journal, or shall we say “diary” where you keep track of your daily activities, share your interests to the world, and say just about anything, or everything about you.

For most people blogging had already been a part of everyday life, and had been used for different purposes. Blogging had gained extreme popularity over the past years, and it gets better and better with different templates and widgets to make it more fun, and appealing; it was also made easier to share with different bookmarking sites and social networking sites to reach a bigger audience.

Blogs had been a powerful tool in communicating ideas and reaching a lot of people in this world of cyber space. But although blogs are very popular, some people are still wondering why their blogs fail to generate traffic. What is the secret that made other people’s blog so popular and successful?

1.    On top of the list would be the relevancy of delivering valuable content.

Popularity of blogs depends on the quality of its content. Everyday millions of people publish blogs without good content that’s why they fail. If you can create a blog that’s with high quality content you can fill a need that’s not properly met as more and more people search for something new everyday.

2.    Fresh, updated, and targeted content.

Those people who developed interest in your blog would consistently follow you for new updates, news or stories. If you keep your blog with fresh updates at least once a week search engines would be interested to send you traffic. Remember that your blog should be targeted to a specific niche, but if not, and is a mixture of different things, that would create confusion to your readers and to search engines as well. As a result, no one would be interested to stay, or return to your blog and traffic would fall.

3.    Having a professional look.

The use of templates with soft soothing colors gives readers a relaxed feeling, but the use of strong, bright and flashy colors, or background would look like a road hazard signage.  Keep it simple, and clean because it’s the content of the blog that you would like people to get attracted with, and not with the template, but although it’s a plus, it doesn’t have to be overly emphasized than your blog. It should be easy to navigate as well, so if your blog is easy on the eye, and easy to navigate this would keep visitors interested.

4.    The option of monetizing.

The use of revenue generating tools like adsense, would allow your blog to be profitable, and affiliate links, makes it easier for the readers to buy the product that you recommend at the comfort of your own blog. With adsense, for every click you get paid; with affiliate links, for every purchase you earn commission. But remember not to crowd your content with affiliate links; one or two would be enough. The quality of your blog’s content is very important, and affiliate links should just be an option that you offer to your readers. Keep their interest at heart all the time, and making money out of it would just be a bonus.

5.    Proper positioning of advertisements.

Popular blogs contain fewer advertisements because emphasis is laid on the value of the content. Too much advertisement scares visitors away. Even if the content of the blog is so interesting, having ads after each paragraph would be so annoying that you would lose interest in reading further. Don’t turn your blog into an “ad farm” place them in places that compliment the content. This would give you a better chance of getting clicks for your adsense or other affiliate banners, so it’s important to know where to properly position your ads. Don’t place too much ads because it lessens the quality of your blog and takes away your visitor’s interest.

6.    Last but not least is how it helps build relationships.

Your blog should make it easy for others to find like-minded people who share the same interest, or experiences, and exchange their views, opinions, suggestions and information. It should encourage participation among readers, and influence others to join therefore, giving them a chance to form new friendships and connections.

Those are the secrets behind popular blogs. Now that you know the important things about blogs, and how knowing this would help you create better blogs, you are now on the right track towards your blog’s success. Always keep in mind the importance of having a valuable content and encouraging more people to take part in the discussion about the topic. Always make your blog worth reading and worth following; that is the measure of its popularity and success.
