Why did I name my blog Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette? There are three reasons.

I’ve been blogging on the Gazette for about 14 months now. I like having my own blog. I like being a blogger. Now when people ask me what I do I don’t say I’m retired, that I live on Social Security. I tell them I’m a blogger. I can publish content on my personal blog that I cannot publish on Triond. I use the Gazette as an online marketing tool to drive traffic to my Triond account.
A lot of thought went into naming the blog. I wanted a name that would cause someone who lived in or near the City of Pittsburgh or was from the city to have a reason to click on the blog.
I wanted anyone who was interested in reading or writing the very short story to click on the blog.
And I wanted the name to give a sense of journalistic professionalism to the blog.
The blog has evolved beyond the core audience that was its first audience; but the name is still relevant to the blog’s founding mission. A good name has to be able to absorb new subjects without losing its focus on the reason or reasons the blog was founded in the first place.
This is what 14 months of blogging has taught me about the naming of a blog. The naming of a blog is one of the most important things a blogger can do.
If the blogger gets it right, all well and good. If the blogger gets it wrong…

Frances, you said it. Having the wrong name for a blog is like running in the wrong direction. Then when you change the name you have to make up all that ground.
