While I was working on my MFA in writing from 2003 to 2006 at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the classes I attended had to do with the Hollywood films of Douglas Sirk. He directed some of his best known films in the 1950s. His genre was melodramas. One of his best known melodramas was Imitation of Life starring Lana Turner. Lana Turner was a big star, if not the biggest star in Hollywood during the 50s. The story goes that Lana Turner was discovered in a malt shop, wearing a tight sweater while she sat at the counter drinking a malt. She was around 18 years old and was dubbed “The Sweater Girl” by the media. That’s how Lana Turner got her big break.

Well, I just got my big break.
Of course, I’m not an eighteen year old starlet. I’m a 63-year-old blogger. And I don’t want to be a star. I want my blog to be a star. But just like Miss Turner, I think my blog was in the right place at the right time with the right assets in the right places, if you know what I mean.

Every blogger knows that blogging is a process. Some bloggers know how to manipulate the internet to send rivers of hits to their blog. I don’t have that savvy. And I certainly don’t have the time to gather thousands of friends on different social-media. I find it nearly impossible to keep up with my friends who are active here at Triond.
So, I try to find other publications in my niche that get far more hits every day than my blog and that will allow me to place a link on them. Recently, I submitted an article to such a blog and this blog will publish the article in two parts later this month. I’m going to be a regular contributor to this blog which is in my niche and that gets ten times more hits every day than my own blog.
Whether this means I will become a bigger blogger or not is not the point of this article. The point is, a blogger must put his or her blog in a position to get that first big break not once and not twice but time after time after time until one of these big breaks takes your blog to the next level. And just like Lana Turner, your blog had better be ready for its close up.

Another excellent share Guy. Well done.
Wishing you the best!
That twenty Dollar suit had me caught till it stopped…. cheers
Good for you. My first big break involved my elbow and a horse.
I really hope it works out for you Guy, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. LB
Well Done bro and keep up the good work.
Good luck to you, Guy. I hope the hits pour in. An interesting post.
Christine
I’ll be writing for the Flash Fiction Chronicles. If I can get in an article there every month and maybe become a regular contributor at three or four other publications I just might be able to pull in 100 hits a day at my own little blog. 3,000 hits a month is not bad for a little blogger like me. It’s really tiny compared to other big-time blogs but it would be an all time hight for me and make me a respectable player in my niche which is flash fiction.
I can’t wait to read more of your flash fiction.
Hogan, I love it. It looks very neat and attractive. I’m so happy you have gotten your first big break that you deserve and that God meant for you to have.
Now if I could just find a little bit of time to write up an article for YouWrite.
I wish you the very best going forward.
Everyone, thank you for your kind words. Ken, thank you for your funny words. A pat on the back can do wonders.
u don’t need to go elsewhere
every Triondite reads u here
manage it with delight

I’m happy you got your big break Guy, I hope you become as famous as Lana Turner. She was one of my favorites.
Cheers and blessings more blessings that you consider breaks
That’s great news Guy. I hope the hits will get bigger.
Why did only 4 people liked it if it’s such a big break? This article didn’t convince me to go to your blog, and I think that it (the article as well as the blog) sucks.
Cheers for the blessing. Nice share.
We all need a break sometimes and I’m happy this is yours, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. You know I only wish you all the best.
Take care, Pam
Good job. Good things come to those who are diligent.
Excellent work Guy. Hope your blog brings in the hits.
Monica.
Keep up the good work, and be a better blogger!
Wishing you the best, Guy.
Great. I also don’t know how to manipulate the internet, so I just write and write. It is true, who has enough time to befriend so many people? It is tough.
I am sure one day your blog will be up there with the best Guy!
thanks for your article
