When you start out to make a blog does it matter that you change your name, make your pen name appealing or unique to stand out amidst the rest? The answer to this question may depend upon the situation I suppose. There are those who have made the most “exotic” sounding names and the article just reads the same. What I mean is if you try to change the book’s cover without improving the content it remains just as bland as it was (if it was bland beforehand). However if your content has some substance in it, improving the cover will indeed make it better. The first example may well be a form of deception and that is not what readers would want.
When I took my pen name (Deep Blue) I just want to make a change. I was a victim of social utility sites at a time when blogging wasn’t well known to me. Later I just realized how I blended well with my pen name on my articles in that whenever I’m feeling impatient I could still smile to myself thinking. When my posts seemed too good for me and I have less views or comments I just take it that my articles were too deep to be understood. When that happens I just think of the blue sky and again I feel refreshed to start anew. Having been able to survive flight training once, I could only think about being strapped at the cockpit of a plane alone, minding the controls recalling my first solo cross-country flight and how I made it back in one piece battling some 40 knot headwind on a late afternoon upon landing.
There’s no headwind, tailwind and crosswind in blogging and definitely no bad landings. So my pen name becomes my magic word of relief. As for identity, I suppose bloggers earn it in time when mastery of the written word outweighs time and effort thus earning them the friendship of other writers and a loyal following of readers. When we talk about WWF in the mid 1980s to the early 90s no doubt Hulk Hogan will come to mind. That was identity in wrestling. Taking blogging into consideration in Triond, it’s another story. Blogging and writing has only one Guy who keeps a dedicated post to inspire many. If you know what I mean, that’s identity in blogging.

Blogging is fun but you need time to do it.
To me blogging is really hard! I would rather just write.
Well u need something extra for blogging m still learning well written article thxs for the share.
umm… wonder if “Fashion Girl” is good enough..?!
Maybe it does, because if you know a good author, you would have interest in that straight away. Overall good article.
I think that a pen Name is what ever make you feel good and comfy. I like yours because it fits your articles to a tee, different degrees of deep. I like my pen name because the only person that ever called me his little snookums was my Paternal Grandfather, the name means a lot to me.
Oh, I love that picture of Hulk Hogan one of my all time favorites
This is a very thought provoking article. I never realized how important your name could be to blogging. I also love your pic of Hulk Hogan. He is one of my favorite wrestlers.
I will say (as an artist) getting into galleries with the name Mark Brown, is not too easy.
Thanks everyone. Honestly, each and everyone’s name or pen names suits his or her purpose. It is upon each individual’s efforts or writing style to make a name. I have mistakenly mixed up the link to my blogpage here at Triond days ago clicking this link, http://www.triond.com/users/%20blue. When it turned out, names of Triond members which had earned a name were shown in big letters. Now if you recognize the name which stand out from the rest within our circle that’s what I mean of my last lines in this post. Of course we have to work out our own but regarding writing tips, even I learned so much from our friend.
Cheers,
Will
I think my name suits my common sense personality. I can’t think of anything that would work better.
Nice one….
Another deep analysis of things. Your pen name is just right for your writing tone. That means you’re the kind of guy that views life always with some contemplation.
Nice article as always.
Pen names also best describes our personality.
Great write and nice question! For most my pen name is a mystery to people but…it’s just my initals!
i do agree with almag
When I started on Triond my pen name was WAHM, but when I started to write seriously I thought I’d change it to a real name. Kristie is actually my middle name.
Interesting thoughts from you! I never really thought about how I would be perceived via my pen name but I suppose it is an important factor. I am lillyrose now, I love the person she is! does that count?
You have had so many fantastic experiences to write about (I salute you!) I would rather have my eyelashes pulled out than be strapped to the cockpit of a plane!!!
Oh yes and we all owe a great deal of our blogging skills to Guy!
Hehehehehe..I like your name DeepBlue..it was one of the pen- names that really stood out from the rest when I first started writing @Triond. I had no idea how to navigate my way around the site let alone what was required to get people to read your work..now I’m a ’seasoned’ Trionder..I know the man behind DeepBlue..and he’s a wonderful writer
Thanks for breaking my informal “riddle”, Lisa. I suppose nobody thought about why I took Hulk Hogan among other big names to compare with. Yes, I mean about Guy. He started out sometime in March ‘09 and made quite a name for himself. Regarding writing styles, I learned a lot from him. Don’t be dismayed though, I suppose we’re all unique and we just need patience to keep on writing and aspire to improve our craft. Thanks to everyone.
hey kabayan, thanks for sharing this with us. I guess I know you more this time.
Identity can be key, that’s a fact, but as you say, if there is no substance behind that identity, then the identitiy itself fails. I’ve not tried blogging and don’t really pretend to understand what it’s about or how I could benefit from it with the limited time I have to write. For now, I think I’ll continue with my own attempts at wisdom, individuality and obtaining popularity through my endeavours.
Good luck in your continued efforts my friend.
Aldrin
I believe that choosing a good pen name is a crucial aspect for a writer. Yours suited your works perfectly.
