Blondie: Call Me

Remember the song, “Call Me” by the band Blondie?  Remember Deborah Harry, the lead singer for the band?  The song was a promise of sexual gratification any time of day or night.

What does this have to do with bloggers, poets and writers?  Plenty.  Of course the gratification I’m taking about is not sexual.  But when a reader clicks on your work, that reader is looking for gratification.

I’m not a poet; but I am a blogger/writer and I’m very aware that my readers are looking for something and if they don’t get it they are not coming back.  Whether readers find my work here on Triond or on my personal blog, I know they want entertainment or insights to a writing or a blogging situation they’re dealing with.  This is my responsibility as a blogger and a writer.

If I’m to keep readers coming back, they must get satisfaction not once, not twice but every time they click on my profile or blog.

This is what every online wordsmith must do: give satisfaction.

Think of your readers as customers you have to give constant attention to.  Even if you are not writing to make online money, and even if you say you’re really writing just for the joy of writing you still want an audience.  If you didn’t want an audience you wouldn’t publish online.

I know that when I blog the blogger is not who’s important.  Anyone can blog.  I just want my readers to know that when they want what falls within my expertise, they can call me.

People would keep coming back if they know that the writer appreciates their thoughts and opinion or even care to answer their questions. It’s building a reader-writer relationship.

Having your own blog is kind of like owning and operating a business – you can’t just set it up and expect it to flourish or run itself. Your customers are your readers and you have to look after the backbone of your blog :-) Good post Guy

Guy, I call you every day, you have so many words of wisdom. It’s funny, when I first clicked on your name, it was in the list of Hot Users, but you’re the only one I keep coming back to from that list. Also, like Ken, I’m showing my age, Blondie is definitely Dagwood’s wife.
