Blogging

So you think you want to blog? A new blogger’s fears revealed.

So how many of you are new bloggers like me? You love to write and you love meeting people, right? But truth be told, you really don’t have a blinding clue of what to do and where to begin, yes? And the one thing you do know for certain is that you are just a tiny speck on the ass of this stratosphere known as the blog!

Yes, it is exciting! Yes, it is definitely FUN! But what about the fear of it all? As a multi-medium artist, I am pretty thick-skinned when it comes to critiques especially when I know I can give it right back and it’s all part of the learning and growing process. Now, as a person desiring to blog, the fear factor equation changes significantly and can be paralyzing if you let it get the best of you.

My Blogosfear List:

1. Fear of the unknown, as in not knowing how to blog and get it out there. You know what I write of here. You are confident that your content is worthy and your writing is fluid…but is it really? How are you to know if no one stops by to give it a read and a comment?

2. Your confidence dissipates slowly at first and then poof! It is completely gone especially after you’ve spent hours blogging, hoping for notice and kind reciprocity and even for someone to confirm that you totally suck! Not to mention signing up with every SEO site and registering with every Social Networking site available. The more you dive into the incestuous pool of how/what-to-do’s, the more you find out how little you know and yes, confidence of any kind has drowned!

3. Fear of revealing too much! Family. Friends. Colleagues. Boss. Need I say more?

4. Fear of revealing not enough or worse yet, not knowing what to reveal for the sake of readership interest.

5. Fear of rejection. There is no way around this one. Write it and no one comes. Re-write it and still no one comes. And finally, don’t write at all and nobody will ever come for sure!

So now what? I have always believed myself to be confident and fearless…the kind who sprints over hurdles with ease…the kind with so much energy, I can definitely power up the California grid! So why does something like the blog get me?

Perhaps it isn’t the fear afterall. Just perhaps this is all about focus, determination, creativity and patience. What do you think?
