Blogging: Life Against Death

I often make references to the rock band The Doors.  It would be accurate to say that I’m obsessed with The Doors.  And I find the group’s frontman, Jim Morrison, endlessly fascinating.

Jim Morrison considered himself a poet.  His poetry became the lyrics of the songs of The Doors.  Val Kilmer played Jim Morrison in the movie The Doors.  He did a pretty good job.  When The Doors first started out, Morrison was a hypnotic performer.  Why?…

Before I give my opinion on Morrison, I’d like to talk about blogging.  Since I took early retirement, I can blog and write all day.  You need time to be creative.  The more time you have the more creative you can be.  That certainly goes for blogging and writing.  Yes, I do consider blogging a creative act.  Like writing, blogging can be a life reaffirming act.  It certainly is for me and I bet it’s the same for millions of other bloggers, too.

There is something exciting about capturing life in the pages of a blog.  And since a blogger can blog about anything a lot of life can be captured.

There is a subscription link on my blog.  Recently, I’ve found out that if I make an occasional request for my readers to become subscribers one or two of them will every week.  It’s something new I’m trying.  You blog and you learn…

The rumor about Morrison’s death is that drugs finally killed him.  His death certificate supposedly states he died of a heart attack at 27.  I think the reason Morrison was such a hypnotic performer in the beginning was because anyone who went to see The Doors knew that the band’s frontman embodied the struggle of life against death.  The poetry fought to get out against the power of the drugs to destroy.   The audiences that came to see The Doors could see this primal, universal struggle going on in front of their eyes right up there on the stage.  And most importantly, they knew it was not an act.  A Doors’ performance was frightening.  It was like not being able to avert your eyes from a car wreck.  No other band before or since has had this power…

A blog is a stage, too.  We all die.  In the truest since, blogging is the struggle of life against death.

I agree The Door were a great band and way before their time. To have died of a quote heart attack at 27, it had to be drugs, which we all know he used. It was very unique how you wrote this article. I enjoyed it very much.
