I Googled Martha and the Vandellas. I read their Wikipedia profile and then I went back to Google and listened to the music of Martha and the Vandellas: “Heat Wave”, “Nowhere to Run”, “Jimmy Mack” and “Dancing in the Streets”. Martha and the Vandellas was one of Motowns hottest groups, from 1967 to 1972. What sweet memories these songs bring back. But I think that I’m like many people. I forget that the music business is a very cut-throat business. Motown was about great music. It was also about business.

Most bloggers do not look at their blogs as a business. But since I took early retirement for the reason that I wanted to be a professional blogger, I now have to look at my blog as a business.

That’s not as bad as it may sound. When a blog becomes a business, good business practices come into play. A blogger has to offer a product. A lot of what I offer deals with writing. I offer practical writing tips and entertainment. I constantly add new content and direct readers to older, useful content. As a blogger, I want my blog to be useful.

When I read other blogs, I can tell right away if a blog is purely about self-promotion or is about being useful. There is nothing wrong with self-promotion. Every blog is really about self-promotion, it’s just that some blogs are more useful than other blogs.
I think every blogger has to decide how useful their blog will be to readers.
Martha and the Vandellas gave us great music. But sometimes we forget that music was their business.

Absolutely Guy, I write for pleasure and for money. I would still write without a blog but I would be constantly sending my flash fiction stories to publishers in the hope of being published obviously. Once anyone has the experience of other people reading their work and receiveing nice comments or a few bucks there is no turning back. After all we all write so other can enjoy our work even without the money we would still write for others. I’ll check out the songs on you tube later. LB

I think the whole purpose of successful acting, music and writing careers is to make the viewer or reader forget it is a business and see it as useful or entertaining to them.

Hombre blanco del santo, I like to use the keywords “blog”, “blogger” and “blogging” to try to get my articles on Webupon. Those are the main keywords. The other keywords like “search engines”, “money making” and “hoisting” are at the top of the page.
You have again hit the nail in the head. Blogging as with all writing I think starts for the pleasure writing brings to the person doing it. Then there is the money side. We all want to make some money from our writing and or blogging.

It is the number one advice from probloggers: treat your blog as a business (tool). And they are right. It is my business but the sole reason I started it so that I could earn a living from something I truly loved.

You have the right idea. I made a few music blogs myself. With youtube, you can just about have your own television station. The difference is, you are just on the Internet.
Of course it is for business (money making) but I know many people doing this just for fun.
This is something ridiculous for me because why don’t people to make money while making fun..
