Blogging: Buried Gold

I was never a big fan of Joan Crawford but I do know that in the 1930s she was a big Hollywood star.  Many movie fans have heard of Joan Crawford.  Joan Crawford was born in 1905 and she died in 1977.  What some fans may not know is that Joan Crawford became a star in the silent movie era with her performance in the silent film “Our Dancing Daughters”.  “Our Dancing Daughters” was released in 1928.  I saw the film about five years ago when I was in a silent film class I was taking as a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh and I borrowed a tape of the film from the public library a couple of years ago.  I loved the film.  It was great.

Joan Crawford’s acting career covered 1925 to 1970.  That’s a long time.

A blog is like an acting career in that the blog becomes more valuable with time.

I started publishing my blog over a year and a half ago.  It has nearly 1200 postings on it.  In the past few weeks I’ve been averaging 80 hits a day.  I’ve noticed something interesting.  When I look at my analytics I find that most of my hits are on postings that I did months ago.  If I get 100 hits in one day only about 15 of the hits will be on content that I published recently.  85 hits will be on the content in my archives.

I think bloggers can come to certain conclusions about making their blogs more valuable.  The longer a blogger blogs the more valuable becomes the content in the archives.  Of course, most bloggers probably already know this.  But it’s only been recently that this fact was brought home to me.

Successful blogging is not just a matter of constantly adding new content but it is also a matter of blogging over a long period of time.

The longevity of Joan Crawford’s career is something that every blogger should try to emulate.

I have recently come to the same conclusion Guy, some of my articles get lots of hits quickly but then the hits stop just as quickly depending on the type of content obviously. I wrote an article on modify a Ford Escort back in October last year, it still gets a fair few hits everyday. Good article as usual nice pics too. LB

I’ve noticed that for me too. More articles = more opportunities for people to find them = more hits.

I never thought about a blog in the same way a I would a career in acting. I like the way you think, it is always outside the box.
