Blogging entails more than simply creating a blog and posting to it.
If you’ve started a blog be aware that there are steps you’ll need to take so that your blog gets noticed, attracting readers and gaining subscribers.
In a recent article I discussed blog monetization so that you earn a little something for your efforts. Once you’ve set that up, you’ll want to consider ways to get your blog noticed.
Blogging Basics: 15 Steps to Get Your Blog Noticed
- Add quality content: craft well written posts with lots of links to your other articles and links to helpful sites and resources. In other words, offer value to your readers and your blog will get noticed.
- Add your blog to free blog directories. One of my favorites is Blog Catalog. Add blog directory badges or widgets to your blog so you can keep track of directories you’ve submitted to.
- Feedburn your blog via FeedBurner so readers have the option of receiving your posts via e-mails. You can also use FeedBurner’s Headline Animator to draw attention to your posts, helping to get your blog noticed.
- Install the Add This button so readers have access to additional bookmarking options.
- Add your blog to Technorati and install the Technorati Favorites button on your blog.
- Make sure your blog is ping-enabled.
- Submit your blog post URLs to Twitter, which is a great way to gain readers. (Right-click on the time-stamp to grab the URL to a particular post or simply add a title and include your general blog URL.)
- When writing articles at other sites, link to your blog at every opportunity and place your blog link/URL in your profiles.
- Create an e-mail signature that links to your Blog. This is a great method that works away in the background and will help your blog to get noticed.
- Add the StumbleUpon, Digg, or Buzz Up button code to your blog template’s HTML, so these buttons show at the foot of your blog posts, which makes it easier for readers to Stumble/Digg/Buzz your posts, thus helping your blog to get noticed.
- Include attractive widgets on your blog. Widgetbox offers some neat widgets.
- Submit your posts to Blog Carnival on a regular basis.
- Comment on similar blogs so that trackbacks point back to your blog. At some blogs, parsing shows your post titles and you can choose which post is shown.
- Create a Blogroll of similar blogs and place it in your blog’s sidebar.
These 15 steps to get your blog noticed are effective methods that will spread the word about your blog.

I agree, this article is very useful. I checked out your blog, and indeed it is outstanding. I am learning that aside from the wealth of knowledge you have to share, you are also a very organized, dedicated, and tech savy writer. My poor little blog looks like a crayon drawing compared to yours.
