Get the most out of your internet connection. Download torrents at unheard of speeds.
Have you all but given up on the wonderful word of torrenting? Are you tired of files taking days, or weeks to download? Do you feel like your better off downloading files the old fashioned way?
I’ve devised a list of things you can do to get INSANE download speeds!
The List:
- Find torrents with a good seed/leech ratio: The more leechers there are than seeders, the more bandwicth you will waste uploading to all of them!
- Get additional seeds from torrentz.com: Use the hash code of a torrent you are currently downloading, and plug it into the torrentz.com search box. You will be given a list of private trackers that were not originally connected to your torrent!
- Limit your upload rate: This is very important. You need to cap your upload rate to just below your maximum upload speed. (check at SpeedTest.net). If your upload rate tops out, your download will essentially be crippled.
- Turn on transport encryption: Otherwise, your ISP will know when you are torrenting. Most ISP’s throttle to
- Allow your client through Windows firewall: If your client is behind a firewall, you will have difficulty connecting to peers, thus decreasing download rates.
- Change your default port: Standard BitTorrent settings use ports 6881-6999. ISP’s know this and limit connection through these ports. Changing your default port to something above 55,000 will likely boost your download speeds.
- Increase half-open TCP connections: Most clients will severely limit the number of half-open connections by default. Changing this value to about 60-80 will likely trigger a speed increase
- MOST IMPORTANTLY – FORWARD YOUR PORTS!: This is far and away the most important component to speedy torrent downloads. With a closed port, you will only connect to a handful of peers, IF ANY. You can learn more, plus get instructions at PortForward.com
So once you have all of your settings optimized, go ahead and download something. You WILL see a difference. For me, my first download was about 50x faster than my normal download speeds!
