Out of room on your Ipod or computer because of gigabytes of music? Here is the FREE solution…

with all the music out there in the world and only up to 32 gigs to hold all your music on an ipod touch, or 120 gigs on an ipod classic, theres just simply not enough room for some people, and there is a simple solution, compression.

If you were to simply type in music compression software, all the programs out there are pay to use, but i found a free method! the music format MP3 is a compressed format and there are plenty of free music format converters out there, and the one I personally use is format factory. (heres the link: http://www.formatoz.com/)

once installed, open format factory and click on the audio tab on the left. Then click on MP3 and it will open a new window. Now click add file on the bottom left, and select the file with all your music in it.

next, click the output setting button (top center) and click on the number in the row next to bitrate, and it should have a scrolldown tab. I found a good balance between quality and size to be 96, (the larger the number, the better quality, but more space it takes up, so for our purposes, lower is better) of course its your personal choice how good of quality music you want.

now that you have selected a bit rate click ok until you get back to the main screen (all your songs should be listed there now) and in the top center, click the start button and the conversion process will begin, converson times depend on the amount of music and the quality (which corolates to size), i would recommend selecting the “shutdown after conversions are finished” checkbox at the bottom and leave it over night.

once the converion is complete, your music is now compressed and ready to be added to your ipod or other music playing device!
