My top five most efficient methods for discovering new music to listen to.

If you are anything like me in your love of music you are constantly on the search for new bands and artists. For me my friends are a great resource, as I am receiving emails from around the world alerting me to something new and exciting, but on the off chance your friends aren’t as cool as mine are here is a list of great resources on the internet for discovering new music.
- Blogs – I can’t stress this enough, Blogs are a great resource for discovery. By just exploring Google’s Blogger community you are sure to find something unlike anything you have heard before. My favorite Blog source comes from non other than Rolling Stone Magazine in their Breaking Blog. Updated daily and often times several times a day, it offers audio samples and occasionally free downloads making it by far one of my favorite ways to find the new and cool.
- Pandora Radio It’s true… the Radio DJ is on the same endangered species list as newspapers. As unfortunate at is it’s true. People today want what they want right away and Pandora Radio fills that need. Pandora allows you to create “stations” by selecting your favorite artists and bands. Your “station” then not only plays tracks from those artists selected but also plays tracks from similar artists that you can rate furthering what music becomes suggested for you. I love Pandora Radio for it’s complete simplicity.
- SkreemeR Skreemer is a Mp3 search engine that returns the webpages where the artist you have searched for are located. By giving you the option to search similar artists Skreemer offers up all sorts of new music for you to discover.
- Last FM is very similar to Pandora Radio but offers up more of a “social networking” format. The library contained on Last Fm seems to be virtually never ending and is a great way to share your discoveries with friends around the world.
- Simplify Media – This may be by far my favorite way to share my discoveries with others and explore the libraries of others. Simplify Media directly connects my iTunes with the iTunes of anyone I add to my friend list. While I can’t download or add any of another users tracks to my library I can listen and explore while using something I use everyday anyway. I love this tool.
These five sources are my most favorite discovery methods out there, but not the only ones by a long shot. I recommend them highly and would be interested to hear whatever other sites you know of out there for helping me and others discover new music.

I love this article! I was unaware of Pandora’s radio – now I’m sure I’ll be totally hooked. My husband is so SICK TO DEATH of my constant station flipping – now I won’t have to flip!
